Poon Hill trek allows you to walk through traditional villages and explore the life of different ethnic groups of Nepalese people. We organize Poon Hill Ghandruk trek from Pokhara and Kathmandu. Technically the Poon Hill trek begins from Pokhara then drives as close as Poon Hill, Banthanti.
The trek starts as soon as the drive end at Banthanti then ascends up throughout the natural diverse forest to beautiful Ghorepani. Upon reach, Ghorepani, huge and the tall mountain appear namely Dhaulagiri, Tukche Peak, Dhampus Pass, Annapurna South, Bhara Shikhar, etc. Next morning short steady climb to Poon Hill Viewpoint from here enjoy to see the glorious sunrise view on the Himalayas in 270 degrees including Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna range, Manaslu, Machhapuchhare and numerous other mountains. The first sunray of day golden color goes in the highest peaks on among the other peaks is spectacular. The treks lead you through the different ethnic group's villages and get a taste of dissimilar cultures. Explore the villages of Gurkhas, Ghandruk where the Gurkha regiments begin. Trek route descends throughout the rice field along the Mardi River to Nayapul after that drive back to Pokhara. On your hike, mesmerize by superb Mountain View above the blue sky and lush green landscapes.

Daily itinerary

As per our schedule/program, we are receiving you from your hotel after breakfast, then drive begins from your hotel Lakeside Pokhara then drive endures on the Kali Gandaki corridor till Nayapul. From Nayapul follow branch bumpy road along the Burungi River and enjoy with natural beauty and a cultural glimpse of the multiple ethnic groups. Then a drive end-up at Banthanti village. On arrival, Banthanti village tied your shoestring and stretch the body for the hike. The walk goes into the forest of varied vegetation where possible to encounter the monkey and multiple birds.
The route stretch-out in dense rhododendron forest with exposing a glimpse of birds and wildlife to Ghorepani. Upon arrival at your lodge at Ghorepani, you will have a panoramic mountain view of the Annapurna Himalayan range and Mount Dhaulagiri. In 3-4 hours trekking from Ulleri to Ghorepani, approximately 900 m altitude gain.

Early morning side trek to Poon Hill viewpoint to see sunrise on the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri and several other mountains. It is around 50-min walk in the morning, the Poon Hill route contains stone-stair path inside the tall and dwarf rhododendron forest. Poon Hill Viewpoint, most beautiful hill station to observe snowcapped mountains. Enjoy to see stunning Mountain View of western Nepal approximately 20 mountains. From Poon Hill trek back to Ghorepani then after delightful breakfast, the trek resume which contains gentle uphill and descends thru heavy rhododendron forest to Tadapani via Banthanti. The route offers a wide range of landscapes on foot of mountain range, also passing a couple of local tea shops where we stopping for lunch. Tadapani village, around 8 basic tea house are available which is surrounded by tall rhododendron forest.

After breakfast trek starts descending into the mixed vegetation forest with enjoying a close view of Machhapuchhare, Annapurna south, Hiuchuli and numerous of another snow peak. Around 3 hours hike brings us Ghandruk village where we can do Gurung culture excursion including visit local museum after that around 4 hours' drive to Pokhara.

Accessing Pokhara from Kathmandu

There are several options to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu, for your idea kindly go through the below information.

Tourist Bus: Daily tourist bus services available from Kathmandu by 7:00 am nearby Thamel, the bus journey is completely scenic and worth of one time. It will be around 8 hours journey to Pokhara and the bus halt a few places for the toilet and meals. The bus arrives around the afternoon in the Pokhara and it cost USD10 each head for standard tourist bus and Greenline bus USD25 Per person and lunch included.

Private Transport: Getting Pokhara by private vehicle is more comfortable than the tourist bus and a relatively bit short journey than the bus as well. As it is private trips can stop transport at convenient places for the pictures. There are different prices for the mode of transport like Car cost USD130, Jeep Cost U$D180 & Van [Hiace] USD200.

Flight: From Kathmandu to Pokhara flights are operating from morning to evening and multiple airlines providing services. It is a 20-min scenic flight, you may choose your preference fly time from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. It is the best way to kick-off the traffic and it cost USD120 per head for a single way.


Where to start and end 3-Days Poon Hill Ghandruk Trek

Tailored-made 3-days Poon Hill Ghandruk Trek begins from Pokhara with scenic drives. The first section of the drive contains a blacktop road and driving on foot of Annapurna mountains range till Nayapul. Beyond Nayapul drive continues on a bumpy road as well as dusty which lets you discover excellent scenery of the rice terrace, meandering river, and local villages. Your drive end-up Banthanti village which is 2 hours' off-road drive from Nayapul and 3- hours walk distance from Ghorepani.
On day 03 of Poon Hill Trek, your drive starts from Ghandruk Village, the four-wheel jeep mostly driving down from Ghandruk through the rice veranda with breathtaking Mountain View. The dirt road finish at Nayapul then 2-hours more drive on the concrete road to Pokhara.


The best season for Poon Hill Trek

Poon Hill Trek- the best available short trek in Nepalese Himalayas, the path widening from 1400 m to 3210 m above sea level and it offers close and panoramic mountains vista of the Annapurna mountain range. The Poon Hill trek can do from September to the beginning of June, during the autumn (September/October/November) the weather is pretty good with mild temperature. The scenery looks like a canvas that contains meandering river, green & yellow landscapes, pristine forest, and high snowcapped mountain range. The blue sky above the valley dominates an entire staging.
The spring is highly recommended for trekking around the Poon Hill and Ghandruk, the mountain has thick snow and also the entire forest is colorful because of the blooming of rhododendrons and magnolia. The weather also perfect and the sceneries always spectacular. Still possible to do the trek from December to February, the temperature drop in negative and possible to walk on fresh snow. From June to early September is the monsoon period in Nepal, the grass is relatively tall along Poon Hill Ghandruk trek and also finds bloodsucker leeches.


Ghorepani Poon Hill and Ghandruk trek permit cost?

Any international trekkers have to obtain Ghorepani Poon Hill trek permits before reaching the first checkpoint. Two permits are required for Poon Hill trek, Annapurna conservation area fees, and Trekking information management system, both permits cost Rs-4000/5000. The FIT can buy Annapurna trekking permits in Kathmandu (Nepal Tourism Board, Brikuti Mandap) and Pokhara (Nepal Tourism Board, Damside) and for the organizer the local agency arranged. Both the permits are one time use.
