Must visit gompas and monasteries in Dolpo Trek

Dolpo region, the hidden jewels for outdoor hiker which laying in western Nepal. Dolpa is the largest district in Nepal and much of land is barren due to the Trans Himalayas. The detach Doplo trek is sealed for the international tourist till 1989 and then it open for wilderness global explorers. The magical land is occupied by Buddhist people and where the local practicing fascinates pre-Buddhist religion “Bon Po”. Dolpo trek route is filled with much of Bon-Po religion monasteries and Gompas.
Ribo Bumpa Gompa, Dho Tarap
The Nyingmapa sect Buddhist monastery located near to Dho village, the beautiful mural wall painting makes the Gompa extraordinary. The ancient Buddhist monastery representative both pre-Buddhist Bon-Po and Tibetan Buddhist religions. The monastery is inspired by the Samye monastery which is built in Tibet. The myth said the great Tibetan Buddhism discipline Guru Padmasambhava traveled to this milestone holy place and hunt the demon and taught Buddhism.
Tsakhang Gompa, Shey
Tsakhang gompa perched high above the valley on the solid cliff northwest of Shey Gompa, about 2 hours trekking from Shey on the alpine terrain. There are two different gompas which are red and white painted. Both of the buildings are attached to the huge rock also partially natural cave as well. The monks rarely live here before the finale board to Tsakhang gompa check monk and key of Tsakhang Gmpa at Shey. Also visible numerous ancient Bon religion stupa as well as series of the stone cairn on way to Tsakhang gompa. The inner part of the monasteries has a beautiful painting of different Buddhist discipline as well as a statue of Guru Rinpoche, it is worth to visit.

Shey Gompa, Upper Dolpo Trek
Shey Gompa, the red and white painted Kagyupa sect ancient Buddhist monastery with a series of uncountable stone cairn stupa set on the grassy meadow beneath the crystal mountain in the Upper Dolpo. The secret places have great religious value in the Chaiba community also honored by both Bon-Po and Tibetan Buddhist people. The main monastery believed to be built in 11th century by great lama Tenzing Rapa who was a discipline of great Tibetan saint Padmasambhava who also preaching Buddhism in the Himalayan countries.
Samye Choling/Saldang Monastery Saldang
Samye Choling/Saldang Gompa a renovated Buddhist monastery laying above the Saldang village and it restoring ancient Tibetan Buddhism. There are two buildings and a number of colorful stupas. White and red-painted sparking stupa dramatically attract the tourist where regularly taking a homage by the monks.
Samling/Shyamling monastery is believed to be the first Bon-Po monastery which was built in 13th century. The ancient pre-Buddhist gompa has a very rich collection of Bon-Po religious texts book. It is a great place to learn about the Bon-Po religion group because most of the Bon-Po monasteries in the Tibetans have been destroyed during the cultural revolution. The monastery renovation in 2012 and still have old paint of different goddess and Buddhist teachers also wall is decorated with frescoes. Samling/Shyamling monastery is located on the sloppy grassy mountain above the river where have around 22 different Chorten and a red-white painted stupa with flat roof monasteries.
Bon Shipchoc Gompa a stunning Buddhist monastery located near Dho Tarap village at the inner Dolpo route. Shipcock gompa was established in 1785 AD by a monk named Yangton Yungdrunk Gyaltsen. The sacred monastery has been built in a quiet environment where does not have any human movement. There is a series of the stupa (Dome) with a sequence of a stone cairn with inscribed some of the Buddhist manuscripts. Much precious religious textbook, statues, relics, murals, fresco, and some animal represented mask stored in the Gompa. It is about a half-day trip to and from Dho Tarap village.
Yangtsher/Yangzer Gompa, Saldang
YangTsher/Yangzer Monastery, British nomad David Snellgrove said the Nyingma-Pa sect Buddhist monastery was founded by Choegyal Palsang nearby Saldang village in the Dolpa district. The complex has three different gompas with wall fresco and gilded wall painting. Nine colorful stupas and 22 Chorten are built around Yangzer monastery. It an about day trip from Saldang village, the trail onward uphill on the grassy meadow with crossing confluence of the two different rivers. Highly possible sights Himalayan vulture, blue sheep, marmot, etc
