Milke Danda Rhododendron Trek, the best place in Nepal to explore the wide-ranging of rhododendron flower with eastern Nepalese culture and Himalayas. It believed around 40 separate colors of rhododendron blossom during the month of April. Milke Danda Rhododendron Trek Route section straddling through the dense rhododendron forest, grassy pasture, villages and offer glorious sunrise and sunset on the Kanchenjunga range and Makalu. The Milke Danda rhododendron trek highlights grown of the distinct rhododendron, experience charming Nepalese culture of different ethnic group, and get closely Mountain View of Mount Makalu and Kanchenjunga range. It is low altitude trek with average hiking 5-7 hours a day, most of the day following the level trail, and the trek is suitable for any good physical level hiker no matter novice or experienced or old age or family holiday. We highly recommend hiker select good hiking time to have full enjoyment of the Milke Danda Rhododendron trek, spring from March to May is the good time of the year also in the winter. The trek also extends with any Kanchenjunga trek and Makalu base camp trek.
Daily itinerary
Day 01: From Kathmandu Drive to Basantapur (2,220 m)
17 Hrs Drive Or 45-Minute flight then Drive B/L/D With Hot Drinks Lodge
We have two option to get Basantapur, where we starts our trek. Either 17 hours overland drive by deluxe bus/micro bus or a-45 minute flight to Biratnagar then 3-4 hours' drive.
In the morning guide receive then drive to domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport, an hour flight approaches Ariel mountain vista of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Everes region, Mera peak, Kanchenjunga range and Mount Makalu. On arrival Biratnagar airport, we take a jeep to Basantapur Dhankuta, it takes about 3-4 hours. It is scenic drive and stopping on the way for taking photograph of the rice terrace, Namaste waterfall, thrilling Tamor River and dotted Nepalese villages on sloppy mountains.
Early morning you'll be transfer to bus station then 17 hours bus journey begins from new bus station. The drive follow on B.P highway along the Sunkoshi River and also stopping few places for the toilet and meals. After crossing famous Koshi barrage on the Sapta Koshi River then gently altitude gain to Basantapur via Bhetetar and Dhankuta.
Day 02: From Basantapur trek to Chauki (2,640 m)

Early morning short excursion of the Basantapur town where the nearby locals come to sell gardening and homemade products. After breakfast trailhead to Chauki village, a trail beyond the Basantapur is mostly gentle climb up into the colorful rhododendron forest. The flourishing specialist said we can find 28 different types of rhododendron around this dense forest. A short ascent through tall rhododendron forest brings us to the huge boulder, from the ridge get magnificent scenery of the picturesque Basantapur town also gets a magnificent view of the diverse landscapes. Our further path still continuous inside the dense rhododendron forestry and spot different species of the birds around the beautiful lake. Often pass small local tea stall en route to Chauki also get mountain vista of the Makalu and Kanchenjunga range in far distance above the farming sloppy hill.
Day 03: Trek from Chauki to Gupha Pokhari (2,930 m)

Throughout the day walking on long edge and getting close to Himalayas, a trail often led into the diverse rhododendron forest. It is magical day, the walk entertain you with mountain vista, impressive lake and unparalleled landscapes as well as Himalayas view. We have a chance to see bunch of yak around Ghupha Pokhari if time permitted can do side trek to nearby cave.
Day 04: Day Trek To Hile/Gidde (3,630 m)
6-7 Hrs Trek B/L/D With Hot Drinks Lodge/Guesthouse
Beyond the Ghupha Pokhari does not have any human residence either we do one-night camp or day hike further up near to mountains. We do dayside trek to Hile viewpoint, it is beautiful hike into the impressive nature protection area. High chance to spot some animals and birds because of no human and engine noise. We set-off from the lodge with sufficient meals and drink for the day also double-check batteries of the camera and phone. The pleasant hike continuous as far as we can and get a close panoramic view of the Mount Makalu and Kanchenjunga range also a turquoise fresh watery river. Before getting dark trek retrace to Ghupha Pokhari for overnight
Day 05: Trek to Jaljala (2,010 m)

In the morning watch glorious sunrise over the thick snow-clad mountain then after breakfast trailhead on the downhill that passes grassy pasture and rhododendron forest till Nundaki village. A path provides meandering landscapes sceneries of layers of farmland. We then walk through villages of different indigenous people with a cultural glimpse of the small stream coming down from Sabha Pokhari. Further trek continuous with an uphill climb through mesmerizing rice terrace to Jaljala village. You'll be accommodating on a simple tea house that operating by the Limbu family.
Day 06: From Jaljala to Chainpur (1,260 m)

Our trek onward to Chainpur village is an enjoyable walk throughout the customary villages and cultivated landscapes also crossing several streams. After walking about 5-6 hours in a subtropical climate zone with enjoy the contradictory nature settings and watch a glimpse of the eastern Nepalese culture we reach to Chainpur village.
Day 07: Trek to Tumlingtar (450 m)
6-7 Hrs Trek B/L/D With Hot Drinks Lodge/Guesthouse
We are heading to Tumlingtar airport, the path contains climb up and down, a trail taking across the crops field often see the people are doing agriculture. Around here have dense human residences and rapidly seen mixed culture glance. We have better accommodation than the other day in Tumlingtar, the room with an inside toilet as well as a hot shower plus the internet. If the time permitted short side trips to Khandbari, the commercial village also weekly market once a week.
Day 08: Fly to Kathmandu (1,350 m)
45-Minute Flight B/L/D With Hot Drinks ---No---
Tumlingtar airport laying above the Arun valley and surrounded by rice terraces, the airport is within walking distance from the lodge. We walk to the airport an hour before the scheduled flight, it is a 45-minute joyous flight that offers close Mountain View of the eastern Himalayas and diverse landscapes. Upon arrival domestic terminal Tribhuvan international airport transfer to your hotel.
Have a joyful leisure time then evening organize farewell dinner at authentic Nepalese restaurant with live Nepalese culture show.
