The Khari Khola to EBC trek without flying to dangerous Lukla airport. Khari Khola Everest base camp trek is the best accessible Everest trekking route with avoiding air transport. The nearest jeep station from Lukla airport is Khari Khola and it is a long day trek. About 30 Km far from Lukla and roughly 305 Kilometers distance from Kathmandu. It is about 12 hours drive from Kathmandu to Khari Khola. There is a good road from Kathmandu to Phaplu and it smooth drive on the mountain terrain. The rain and landslide might affect the driving beyond the Phaplu to Khari Khola.

From Khari Khola trek gently climb up throughout the village and into the rhododendron and oak forest. Also crossing the Kari la pass (3,080 m) then our trail joint Lukla to Everest base camp route. The route passing Buddhist monasteries Tengboche, Pema Manding, Lawdo Gompa, Thaktul, and Pangboche. Also crossing many suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi river. While trekking in the Sagarmatha national park encounter endangers animals Red panda, musk deer, and regular animals. The extra nights at Namche Bazar and Dingboche villages give enough time to adopt the high altitude. A trek ahead thru the iconic places Namche Bazar, Khumjung, Tengboche monastery, and Gorak Shep. Daily itinerary

Khari Khola is about 305 kilometers far from Kathmandu. And it is about 12 hours’ drive on the mountain road, it also depends on road condition. From Kathmandu reach to Khari Khola by public or private jeep. If prefer to take a public jeep then have to swap the jeep at Phaplu or Salleri. The public jeep departed around 5 am from Kathmandu and then stopped a few times for the toilet and food break before touching down the Khari Khola. It is a long drive on the poor quality road but dramatic scenery makes the journey enjoyable. The journey passing along the Sunkoshi River to Ghurmi. We then drive uphill and passing Okhaldunga and Patale to Phaplu/Salleri. After Phaplu off-road drive with crossing Dhudkoshi river to Khari Khola.
