Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, a stimulate Kanchenjunga Three Passes Trek with wilderness experience over three passes and touching both north and south base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain of the world.
Kanchenjunga region trek
offers striking Mountain View above 7000 m and diverse climate zone from subtropical to Noval climate. Kanchenjunga Circuit trek contains both side north and south Kanchenjunga base camp also trekking over three high passes (Mirgin-la, Selele-la, and Sinelapche) above 13,120 ft in eastern Nepal. Kanchenjunga circuit trek route towards to bottom of world third highest mount Kanchenjunga, inside large nature reserve of Kanchenjunga national park which also connected with Tibet and India. Kanchenjunga trek is one of the most beautiful and less tourist isolate trekking destinations among the Great Himalaya Trails. The local indigenous people believe five treasure of the great snow is the home of their god where Limbu people annually ascend up and sacrifice the animals to make their goddess make happy.
The journey to the wilderness conservation begins with around an hour's flight to southeastern Nepal on the humid zone. Also direct Suketar flight in option but not 100% sure. The Kangchenjunga route offers a unique culture (both Nepalese and Tibetan influence) of local inhabitants. Off the beaten Kanchenjunga trek continues throughout into the dense mixed vegetation where possible to encounter colorful and rare flora and fauna. Once trekking towards beyond Ghunsa village enjoyable your walk on alpine terrain with viewing the spectacular scenery of high snow-covered mountains and glacier in Tamur valley.

Daily itinerary

Transferring to domestic airport then around 45-minute flight provides close view of the Himalayas. On arrival Bhadrapur airport collect luggage then drive towards to Suketar via tea planation. It would be around 8 hours' drive to Suketar and the drive passes Ranke Bazar and Phidim Bazar.

We have a short drive to Thiwa which passes throughout rice and cardamom terrace with the grand lush view of Tamor valley. From Thiwa, we trek along Wild River and passes several local settlements of Limbu and Rai also see the stunning waterfall. Kanchenjunga trail lets you walk on saggy suspension and wooden bridge on the Tamor River and a small stream. The trail from Thiwa to Lelep is slightly ascending up in the gorge with an exceptional view of landscapes.

Trek continues on a narrow path along the rapid Tamor River with a dazzling view of the dramatic setting of a gorge. The remote trail taking into dense forestry of multiple vegetation and tiny villages. After Jaubari crossing suspension bridge over Tamor River then follow steep up a trail to Amji Lhosa, the village occupied by Sherpa.

A slight uphill path brings us the ridge and depiction picturesque view of Amji Lhosa village. From here we descent throughout bamboo shrubs, rhododendron, oak, and pine forest to on bank of the Tamor River and stop for the lunch at Thyangyap. There is seasonal lodge at Thyangyap and surrounding by greeneries often see birds roaming around. You also pass the stunning waterfall and crossing wooden bridge then finally arrived Gyabla.

A trek from Gyabla to Ghunsa is pretty easy into the dense rhododendron forest also the azaleas. The trail is quite narrow till Phale village also passing landslide area. Phale village is a winter settlement of Sherpa, also have Buddhist monastery. One of the trails leading to Olangchukgola and still follow trail laterally on the River to Ghunsa. The valley opens up and starts to see snowcapped mountains, enduring path to the camp is mostly flattened also passes helicopter accident spot. Upon crossing flowing spanning iron bridge arrive large mountain village and explore Buddhist culture. Ghunsa has a secondary school and health post. The local do potatoes, buckwheat farming mainly also seasonal vegetable as well as animal husbandry.

Before finale head on to Kanchenjunga base camp, requires extra night at 3500 m for the good acclimatization against the high altitude. The spare day will be spending with an ascent up to 4000 m small peak opposite site of Ghunsa village. An idea to stay extra night is that hiker can be accustomed to the local atmosphere before reaching high altitude. A day hike will be 5/6 hours including 3 hours strenuous climbing on a hill then 2 hours rapidly walking down on crumble trail. The viewpoint offers a picturesque view of Ghunsa village on foot of mountains and lovely setting of the green valley.

We follow Kanchenjunga trek route east bank of the Tamor River with viewing yellow color natural painted stone and pine forest. Also the half trail till Rampuk Kharka surrounding by verities of mountain herbs. As trek towards Rusty Mountain vividly landscapes changing green valley to glacier terrain and appear thick snow capped mountain Jannu in front. We slowly climbing up then take photos of stunning waterfall also walking on landslide section. Above Ghunsa is refer a residence of the rare Himalayan animals where often see blue sheep and can hear lot story of snow leopard. Kangpachen set on the small grassy valley on a basement of the mountain where local Sherpa running simple lodges and beautiful monastery right above the village. Can see glorious sunset on the snow-capped mountains and during the night can see millionaire of the star on the sky.

The trek contains pasture and glacier to Lhonak village, a trail is light climbing up on lateral moraine and plenty of animal bone can see en route. The trial exposed a grand view of surrounding mountains including Nepal peak, Wedge peak, and Mount Jannu, the mount Kanchenjunga is still far away. We sight stone hut where local sell hot tea and snacks in the peak trekking season. Lhonak set on a sandy plateau and one of the branch trail leading to Nepal Peak.

An exciting day on Kanchenjunga trekking, as one small stone hut is available in Pangpem, we do day trek to Kanchenjunga base camp. A detour begins an early morning and then trail ascends along moraine including climbing and flattens to Pangpema. Next, to the stone hut, a rock is decorated with Buddhist flags that reward the Kanchenjunga base camp. The base camp is fairly known for the best view of Mount Kanchenjunga, Pathivara peak and massive ice fall as well as the large Himalayan glacier. After having the fabulous moment and achieving the goal to reach Kanchenjunga base camp, we start the return trek to Lhonak for the night.

Trek to towards Ghunsa is mostly down on alpine and trans-Himalayan terrain with 8 hours trekking on the moraine, pasture, and pine forest. The trek begins an early morning then passes Kangpachen and Rampuk Kharka to Ghunsa. Hot shower and electricity are available Ghunsa village

From today heading to south face base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, the first section of a trek is fairly easy into the forest then climbing up throughout the dense pine forest and further up on the short shrubs. While trekking on the ridge gets an amazing view of the deep valley and mountains. 3 lodge is available with basic facilities at high camp next to the lake and most of the house is made of wood. An evening has a beautiful sunset view on Mount Makalu and Jannu peak.

A day crossing over three passes above 4000 m, leaving early morning from high camp. We follow an uphill trail on the ridge then first Sinion La (4445 m) then crossing another pass Mirgin La (4480 m) after that crossing highest pass Se Le Le la (4843 m). Each passes offers an exceptional view of the Himalayas and the valley.From the top 1000 m dropping on a crumbling trail to Tseram for the night. Few lodges are available with basic accommodation.

After breakfast short hike to Ramche village then we left our luggage and trek continuously further up to explore the Yalung glacier. While walking on lateral moraine offers a breathtaking view of the nearby mountains Koktang (6147 m), Rathong (6679 m). Also, some of the snow peaks overlap the Nepal and India and also found the snow leopard often cross the high mountains and pasture Sikkim and Nepal. Kanchenjunga expedition team follow a trail on the moraine to go further up after taking photographs of wilderness mountainous retuned to Ramche for the overnight.

From Ramche mostly descending on dense rhododendron and pine forest with passing Tseram on the Simbuwa Khola. The Lalung valley is filled up with verities of mountain basils and during the spring color by actualities of wild rhododendron blooming.

We rapidly descending on the thick forest of pine and rhododendron then passes Lassiya and Lamite Bhanjang. After lunch walking on fertilize and cultivate landscapes to Yamphuding, the second half trail propose a magnificent view of green terraces and a picturesque sight of the valley. Upon arrival Yamphuding check-in Kanchenjunga conservation area permit then cultural excursion into the multiple ethnic villages including Rail, Limbu, Gurung, Sherpa, Tamang, and lower caste. Yamphuding is another larges villages en route of Kanchenjunga circuit trekking.

From Yamphuding walking throughout thick villages of Rai, Limbu, and Gurung, the trail often ascend up and descend also crossing a couple of suspension bridges to Khebang.

Last day of a trek in the mountains, mostly walking throughout villages and cultivate the farm, the scenery of the greeneries and landscapes is an amazing setting. While trekking thru the villages can have eastern Nepal cultural excursion

It is full day drive to Bhadrapur, we have an off-road drive along the Kabeli River to Ganesh Chowk then drive continues on Mechi highway and passes Phidim, Ilam and finally arrived Bhadrapur.

From Bhadrapur there is two way to get back Kathmandu either overland or fly. We organize Kathmandu journey on your request by drive or fly. The buses regularly leaving in the day and night to Kathmandu which takes a minimum of 12 hours to get back Kathmandu.
