The Gokyo lake trek route, a 45-minute mountain flight brings Tenzing Hillary Lukla airport. We follow foot print of legendary mountaineers Edmund Hillary and Tenzin Norgay. Gentle climbing through the cultural Sherpa villages Phakding, Namche, Dole, Machhermo and step on Gokyo lake. The Gokyo peak and Ngozumpa Tse summit panoramic mountain vista at 360º degrees. The summit rewards breathtaking views of four world's highest mountains out of fourteen peaks. The trek can be extended to Everest base camp and Everest three passes trek or straight descend to Lukla.
Daily itinerary
Day 00: Arriving at Kathmandu (1,350 m/4,428 Ft)

Upon your arrival, Kathmandu international airport receiving your guide with fresh wreath then transfer to your hotel. Your trek guide stays standby with your name on the signboard. After room check-in, the hotel has own time until official meeting an evening.
Day 01: Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding (2,610 m/8,560 Ft)

Early in the morning, your guide comes to your hotel then drives to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport. A 45-minute mountain flight allows us to have a thrilling experience with mountain range spanning from Ganesh Himal to Rolwaling. At Lukla introduce with porter then tied your shoestring then follow Gokyo Lake Trek route with descending through villages and farmland to Chhiplung Village where Phaplu and Jiri route joint. We descend through the lush green valley towards Phakding village along Dudh Koshi River. A trailhead Phakding village is draped by charming Buddhist flavor like Stupas, Chortens, and Monasteries. After reaching Phakding highly recommend do side trip to Thaktul/Pemacholing Monastery, 2-3 hours hike for a round trip.
Day 02: Phakding - Manju - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m/11,283 Ft)

We walk through along the river passing villages and crossing a suspension bridge. The trail leads us in the forest of pine, giant fir, and rhododendron to reach Manju where we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. Here we need to register our official permits. Then we continue to trek passing Jorsalle and cross suspension bridge than ascending switchback up through the pine forest and fir that leads to Upper Kshum Khangru Peak Viewpoint where we get the first glimpse of Mt. Everest. We continue through the dense forest to reach the popular Sherpa village Namche – historical trading market between Nepalese and Tibetan, exchanging salt, textiles, herds, dried meat, provisions, cloths handicraft. But now days there is trading every weekend selling fresh food stuffs brought up from the lower areas. This is a buzzing town with internet, fresh bakery, trekking gears, ATM and money exchange available.
Day 03: Acclimatization Day In Namche Bazaar

First acclimatization day of Everest Gokyo Lake trek, spending an extra night at Namche Bazar. We have a few options to hang-out the day. Like day use with exploring Namche Bazar where can see monastery, museum, national park headquarter, café, bar, shop, pool house, and internet. But still, we highly recommend do some hike and go a few hundred meters above the sleeping place.
You may select any of these day hike trips around Namche Bazar like 2-3 hours sturdy trekking to Everest view hotel, 3-4 hours round trip to Lawudo Gompa, 6-7 hours day tour to Thamel village and monastery, or 4-5 hours trek to Hillary Memorial Viewpoint. Any of these easy hikes let you well acclimatize before getting to Gokyo Valley.
Day 04: Namche Bazaar - Mong La - Portse Thanga - Dole (4,040 m/13,251 Ft)

The trek starts after breakfast from the lodge, follow the easy road to Kyangjuma village with oversee the gorgeous view of the mountain range of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Thamserku, and Tabuche. Over here we often spot colorful mountain birds Danphe, and Mountain Tahr. The trail gentle climbing to Mong La pass, then enjoy the breathtaking view of Tengboche monastery on foot of the mount Ama Dablam, Short descend through the dwarf forest brings us Phortse Thanga, we then climb up to Dole. From here get the finest view of Cho Oyu and Kantega.
Day 05: Dole - Luza - Machhermo (4,470 m/14,660 Ft)

Our trail to Machhermo is absolutely pleasant walk with a gorgeous view of the mountains above the Dudh Koshi valley. Throughout the day from beginning to end follow gradually climbing up on the pasture where often see Yak are grazing. We pass the Sherpa hamlet Lhafarma and Luza where few tea houses are available and open it seasonally. After room checked-in and lunch short hike to the nearest ridge above the Machhermo village for the high altitude acclimatization. Machhermo village became well known in international since the Yeti sights in 1974. Himalayan rescue association has seasonal consultancy for providing more about high altitude information.
Day 06: Trek From Machhermo to Gokyo Lake (4,790 m/15,710 Ft)

Today we are starting trek earlier than yesterday because after reaching Gokyo Lake short side trek along the Ngozumpa Glacier, the largest glacier of the Himalayas. Throughout the hike to Gokyo Lake, it offers spectacular and exclusive sceneries of the mountain, valley, lake, and glacier. A trail towards Gokyo Lake is pretty easy but as we walking onto the high altitude above 4000 m, it might feel hard to breathe into the thin air. We follow a gentle up path to Gokyo Lake through grassland, moraine and glacier also pass first and second Gokyo Lake before arriving third Gokyo Lake where tea house operating on Sherpa Hamlet. On way to Gokyo valley crossing the avalanche area near to Phangka where some foreigner died in 1995. After arriving Gokyo Lake room checked-in and lunch then explore turquoises color Gokyo Lake and Ngozumpa glacier bottom of Mount Cho Oyu.
Day 07: Gokyo Lake - Gokyo Peak (5,360 m) - Machhermo - Dole (4,040 m/13,251 Ft)

We take-off to Gokyo Ri (5360 m), it takes 2-3 hours to reach Gokyo Peak. A route to Gokyo Ri viewpoint is steeply uphill on the grit but it provided extraordinary sights of Himalayas. Glacier and turquoise lake. Gokyo Ri viewpoint offers the broadest mountain range including the best vision of four 8000 m mountain out of fourteen namely Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Makalu, and Lhotse with together the number of trekking peaks. Then returned to Lodge, Dudh Pokhari and after while retracing to Dole via Machhermo village. The route exposes a magnificent view of mountains throughout the Dole village.
Day 08: Trek From Dole to Namche Bazar (3,440 m/11,283 Ft)

Trailhead Namche Bazar is mostly descending also quite stirring and getting back to pristine forest, high chances to see wild animals, different species of birds and distinct snow-clad peak. The entire path to Namche Bazar is well decorated by flapping Buddhist fortress.
Day 09: Namche Bazaar - Phakding - Lukla (2,860 m/9,380 Ft)

A distance from Namche Bazar to Lukla about 20 Km and roughly 700 m altitude dropped. A good hiker requires about 7 hours to complete the trek to Lukla. The route contains steeply descending till Tado Koshi through the villages then gentle climbing up to Lukla village. We halt night here in Lukla then wait for next day flight to Kathmandu.
Day 10: Fly back to Kathmandu (1,350 m/4,428 Ft)

Taking an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, on arrival Kathmandu airport transfer to your hotel. As it is part of mountain flight, let's have the last glance of Himalayas range on way back to Kathmandu. Kathmandu has all that we require after tough adventure. Enjoy your afternoon with luxurious foods and drinks also can do the shopping for family and friends before your dinner at a typical Nepalese restaurant and enjoy to see lives cultural display.
