Pikey Peak Everest Base Camp Trek is the classical trekking route to the heart of Everest region which was used by the Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary in their Mt. Everest expedition in 1953. It is one of the popular trekking trails in the world, which offers the combination of natural, cultural and high mountains. This trekking trail provides the opportunity to the trekkers to explore the landscape of the whole Khumbu and Everest region, green forest with rare wild animals and birds, lush valleys with the spectacular view of the giant world tallest mountains such as the fantastic vistas of the mountains like Mt. Everest (8,848 M) the tallest mountain of the world Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Pumori, Thamserku and numerous other peaks as well as the culture and tradition of the ethnic Rai and Limbu in sub-tropical and Sherpa community in alpine. The traditional route of Everest base camp trek begins from Jiri or Shivalaya after 7/8 hours' drive from Kathmandu. While driving to Shivalaya you will be enjoyed to see the natural beauties of landscape, typical villages and fantastic Mt. Vista and raft on Bhote Koshi river. Once you start your walking from Jiri you are overwhelmed with Nature's beauty as well as the untouched culture of the ethnic inhabitants. En route, you pass through the terraced green farm, beautiful rhododendron, and pine forest, numerous ethnic settlements, valleys with the amazing view of the mountains and surrounding landscapes. The hiking to the Kala Pattar-the perfect view point of Everest, Tengboche monastery are other remarkable features of Nepal Everest Base Camp trekking route. The best time to go for the Jiri to Everest base camp trek is from mid-March to May and September to Mid-December.

Daily itinerary

Once you provides us your Kathmandu arrival details, we pick you up from on arrival gate of Tribhuvan international airport. The airport representative stay standby with your name on placard. Then you'll be welcomed with fresh garland after that short driven to your hotel. After room check-in take your own time for relax and leisure.

We start the drive from Kathmandu on Arniko highway till Dhulikhel then join on BP Highway. A drive offers amazing Mountain View with countryside landscapes then get turquoise color sights of Koshi River. It is around 10 hours' drive to Dhap from Kathmandu, a road contains jarring dusty and paved. The jeep takes a break along the way on the local restaurant for breakfast and lunch. From Ghurmi drive upwards on subtropical climate to Dhap Bazaar.

The first-day Pikey peak trek trail contains up and down thru the forest and villages, so trek continuously on dusty jeep path descending to Sigane village where can see mixed ethnic groups. Often walk on the rough road and also possible to follow the walking trail on the ridge and bushes. As ramble into thick bushes can encounter types of birds and also get the view of diverse landscapes. On arrival Japral Gomba can see greenaries setting on the bottom of snow capped Numbur peak and mountain range. A small village is occupied by the Sherpa tribe and has a beautiful monastery.

We slightly climbing up throughout rhododendron forest, from February to May rhododendron blossoming in Rainbow color. Also possible to encounter Himalayan monal, one of the colorful pheasant. Before entering the dense rhododendron forest stop for a cup of tea at Bhulbhule village and admire the stunning view of landscapes and Himalayas on the far distance. There is no proper residence beyond teashop on the long ridge unless passes seasonal yak herders but often meet yak on the forest. Also, walk a side of lineup ancient Mani wall and shattered stupa. Then walking on a grassy hill to Pikey base camp with sights exceptional view of Everest region. Few traditional accommodations are available at Pikey base camp also have a small cheese factory.

An early morning follows gently up a path on the yak pasture ridge to the Pikey peak summit. The twin Pikey peak is strewn with Buddhist prayers flags. Pikey peak is famous to see glorious sunrise on Himalayan range including Mount Kanchenjunga in the far east and Annapurna range in far west with diverse hilly landscapes plus mount Everest. After watching the sunrise on the panoramic mountain range, trek descends to Jase Bhanjyang and stop for the breakfast. From Jase Bhanjyang little ascending to ridge then trail contour inside rhododendron forest to Junebesi via Taktor village. Junbesi village is one of the beautiful Sherpa villages on Everest base camp trek also can see a stunning view of Numbur Himal.

We continue our walk on gradually on the ridge then descend through another ridge to Sukhe situated on a tributary of the Dudh Koshi. Crossing the tributary and go gradually up through villages to Phakding.

Phakding the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River and reaches Zamphuti. From here we can see excellent views of Thamserku peak. Then the trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project, an interesting place to have a look around and gain an insight into the farming way of life of these people. From Chomoa, the trail again climbs to Monjo 2840m and enters the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park (1148sq km, established in 1976). and after a long climb with views of Mt. Everest peeking over the ridge of Nuptse.

Today we take rest for the proper acclimatization with some excursion. We can hike to the Everest View Hotel, the ideal place to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. You can walk around the Khumjung valley, Hillary School and Khunde Hospital and then return back to Namche. In Namche Bazaar you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa and Rai people.

This day we leave Namche bazaar and walk for some time along the ridge and then descend to Dudh Koshi River at Phunkithanka. Then after crossing the bridge we ascend in the steep path up to the Tengboche. On reaching Tengboche you will see the local monastery. Tyanboche have largest Monastery of Khumbu region.

Tengboche the trail drops to Debuche, crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola, and climbs to Pangboche among thousands of Mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. We take our time so we avoid getting affected by the altitude.

Today you can enjoy another day for acclimatization. We will have trip to Chhukung valley via the Imja Khola valley to get a marvelous view of the surrounding mountains, especially Lhotse's massive south wall, then return to Dingboche in the evening.

Today, the trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. We continue to climb as we are heading to the altitude of 4910 meters at Lobuche which is really just a few huts at the foot of giant Lobuche peak. Some breathing problems may arise today due to the altitude.

This is another big and difficult day walk along the Khumbu Glacier and up to Everest Base Camp at 5365 meters, the closest you can get to Mt. Everest without mountaineering equipment. There will likely be a team there about to attempt the summit. The view of the Khumbu Icefall from Base Camp is spectacular. We return back to Gorak shep for the night.

This will be one of the most difficult yet rewarding days of the trek. In the morning we climb Mt. Kala Patthar, a small peak. From Kala Patthar we can see the most magnificent mountain panorama of Everest, the highest point on the planet at 8848 meters, towers directly ahead and other giants, Nuptse, Pumori, Chagatse, Lhotse and countless others. We make a quick descent to Gorak Shep, a tiny hamlet at 5180 meters then trek down to Pheriche.

We descend on the steep path to the Dudh Koshi and then climb up to Lukla. As today is the last day of the trek there will be a fare-well dinner with the trekking crew.

Enjoying your last glimpse of the mountains you have recently visited for one last time on the 35 minute Scenic flight back to Kathmandu. On arrival in Kathmandu we are met and transferred back to our starting hotel.
